Steve When my wife is asleep in bed I use the iPad with its Night Theme, and I can read for hours without disturbing her, and without eye strain. When we're on holiday, sitting outside, I use my Kindle because I can pack a lot of books into a small package and its Electronic Ink screen is perfect for outdoor daylight reading. Given a choice, however, I will read a physical book.

message 252: by V (new)

V I had an iPad for awhile and liked reading on it well enough, but switched over entirely to my Kindle Touch after I got it for Christmas.

It's less useful for reading at night, but it's so much easier to take around and I love the e-ink.

I still love the iPad for everything else, though.

message 253: by Rebecca (last edited Jun 07, 2012 02:51PM) (new)

Rebecca It depends upon what I'm reading. If it's a book, I prefer the Kindle for sure, because there's less glare/distraction of both kinds (otherwise, I'd be surfing the web when I want to be reading). If it's a magazine, the Kindle is a million times better. A million. I prefer to have both.

ETA: I have a Kindle Touch and an iPad 2. (I used to have a Kindle 3/Kindle Keyboard, but I, um, kind of stepped on it and broke it.)

message 254: by Charlene (new)

Charlene Tess I read on the Kindle app on my iPad during the day, and switch to my iPhone when I read in bed because it is so lightweight. Since the two devices sync, the process is seamless. If the book is one I want to keep forever, I still buy hardback editions.

For anyone who finds that the iPad causes eye strain, remember that you can adjust the brightness. I always lower it a bit.

message 255: by Yvonne (new)

Yvonne I love my Nook simple touch! Easy on the eyes lightweight and fits in my small purses. It never leaves my side!!!

message 256: by Byron (new)

Byron Wells Kindle all the way, plus also have the Kindle app on my tablet so have both choices.

message 257: by Jess (new)

Jess I own an iPad and a Samsung Galaxy.
I absolutely love the Kobo app because I can use the volume buttons and I don't have to touch the screen and my eyes don't have to move that far because it only shows like a paragraph at a time.
Kobo for Android ftw.

Sharon Yvonne wrote: "I love my Nook simple touch! Easy on the eyes lightweight and fits in my small purses. It never leaves my side!!!"

Love my iPhone4 for that and it syncs iBook and kindle reading so I have my novel when needed anywhere when I leave my iPad at home.

message 259: by Anita (new)

Anita The nook is a good thing. I travel a lot and books can be heavy. However, when it comes to references, I still like to leaf through the pages because for the most part, the index sections are still oriented towards reading the old fashioned/regular way.

Sharon, I do exactly the same! I have a nook, kindle and ipad. Whenever i leave the house like you i mostly leave my ereaders at home now because my iphone 4S always has my current novel at the ready!
Fab aint it? So handy!

I use my kindle on holiday too! Wish the Ipad had anti-glare. But it heats up way to quickly. I remember sitting outside in the garden one day and my iphone and ipad starting bleeping saying temperture too high, must cool down before it can restart.
I prefer the physical book myself too, but its just so much easier to store. I have hundreds of books between my ipad, kindle and nook, if i got them all in physical form it would fill my whole house haha!

If your i-devices are overheating like that, take them back to the store and have them replaced. This is not normal or acceptable.

Mistress SuckMyBlackDagger Reading on my iPad hurts my eyes! I only read on my Kindle.

message 266: by Chris (new)

Chris I still read actual books but do enjoy my Nook Simple Touch, since it gives me access to out of print content, published-only-in-digital stuff, etc...much better-rated device (recently given highest rating for an ereader by Consumer Reports) than Kindle...

Mistress SuckMyBlackDagger CHRIS!!!!!

message 269: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Hughes I love my iPad for reading magazines, but use my Kindle for reading novels..it is easier to hold in bed...("--") I love my iPad for editing photos etc.
But book reading is easier on the Kindle. Can you tell I like them both...

message 270: by tpixie (new)

tpixie i love my iPad for borwsing the internet, watching videos, but actually read MOST on my iPhone nook app! I do enjoy my nook color, too, but if I were to buy another ereader, I'd buy the Nook simple with light- it's the best of both worlds- eink to read outside and a light to read in bed & it is light weight ( maybe the best of THREE worlds)!

Elizabeth(The Book Whisperer) I have the kindle touch 3g. I love it more than life itself. I used to hate the thoughts of ebooks, because I love regular books so much. I have hundreds of books. I love the look and feel, and even the smell of a new book. Then I decided to buy a Kindle just to see what i was like. I love it. it is so easy to purchase books and to borrow fro the library. It is so easy to hold and lay in bed and read. I promised myself I would never stop buying regular books, but I haven't bought one since I got the Kindle! I will always have hard copies of the books closest to my heart like Harry Potter, The Hobbit, The Lord Of The Rings, and others, but other than that , it will be my Kindle!

message 272: by E.E.S. (new)

E.E.S. My kindle is fantastic. I've tried reading on an iPad, but I read mostly before bed and the light from it ends up damaging my eyes. iPads, I think, are better for games/movies/music.

All eBook systems have light adjustments to them. I read Kobo, Nook, eBooks, iBooks and Kindle plus magazines and newspapers and etc on my iPad and adjust the lighting to the time of day....only time it is a problem is outdoors in bright sunshine!

I agree! I hated the idea of ebooks at first, but they're just so convenient. The lack of space and being able to buy whenever really tops it off.

But I have all of the books I love in hardcover copies.

message 275: by Sherri (new)

Sherri I have both an iPad and a kindle and i read on both. I do prefer my iPad.

Josh kindle for reading, kindle fire for playing

message 277: by Cricket (new)

Cricket I love my Kindle keyboard, its lightweight and its "e ink" makes it much easier to read on that an LCD screen. Plus, it has buttons so I don't have to turn the page!

message 278: by Debra (new)

Debra Taylor I have an I pad & a Kindle Fire both. However, I prefer reading my books on my Kindle. I use it for the purpose of reading only. Couldn't function without it!

message 279: by LJeter (last edited Jul 13, 2012 03:34PM) (new)

message 294: by Barb (last edited Jul 28, 2012 04:33PM) (new)

Barb I have both a Kindle and iPad and hands down I love my Kindle for reading. It's the e-ink that does it for me. Much better on the eyes and less strain. I'm on a computer all day and as much as I read I don't need to read on another device that strains my eyes.

Of course.....now I understand. I only read novels on iPhone while in waiting rooms or in bed now and then as it is so small and less light. iPad light adjustment is excellent but sometimes smaller is nice.

message 298: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Holak Kindle.

message 299: by Candi (new)

Candi Nook because my iPad is a bit too big/heavy. I have the Simple Touch so I like not having a glare. I work on computers all day. Reading on the Nook makes still feel like I'm reading a regular book.
