Academ's Fury by Jim Butcher is #2, btw

Just wanted to drop by and mention that Theft of Sword's series name is The Riyria Revelations. In it's original incarnation it was six-books but Orbit is re-releasing it as a trilogy. They are putting all six books out in 68 days - the first two have just hit the street and Heir of Novron is scheduled for a late January release so if it is selected you can read the full series over three consecutative months and I of course would love to drop by and discuss the books with you all - if you would like me to.

I hope everyone has read the group rules where it says only those who are ALREADY group members at the time the poll is set up are eligible to vote!

This constant "issue" with the Riyria series bothers me.

I seconded the series, because I want to read it. Now I have a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

In all honesty, I think it's great to have authors so very excited to be part of the discussion. But it's just too damn easy for them to influence the vote, which is NOT kool.

Actually, it's been determined that Katie joined BEFORE the poll was set up, so she will be allowed to vote.

Sorry for the confusion I caused. I didn't know the history of people joining to skew votes, and since I joined at the 11th hour I'm content to sit this one out. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the series I'd have voted for wins!

Since neither 'The Magic of Recluse' nor 'Academ's Fury' looks like it has a chance, I'm not voting for them. I'm tired of everyone criticizing authors for promoting their books within the rules, so 'Theft of Swords' gets my vote. Besides, it's a good series & a pretty quick read, unlike those bricks that Jordan wrote, so it will fit into my schedule better.

It appears that 4 votes for Theft of Swords are invalid. So the # of votes is actually 12 for that particular book.

After the epic of Mlazan I would really like to be immersed in something different as I am conscious that I will be comparing to Malazan.

Don't understand the problem with Theft of Swords (and don't want to either). I can recommend it to people who haven't read it yet.
Voted for Empire in Black and Gold because I haven't read that yet, but none of my votes ever go to the winner, I can bet on that by now ;).
Can't believe there are that many people who haven't read the Name of the Wind yet. I don't like it but even I've read it.

I was unaware of any 'politic' issues regarding my nomination of Riyria, had read book 1 and enjoyed it and thought if it won it would be the incentive to finish the series.

I always thought I was well read in Fantasy until I joined fantasy groups - so many new authors this year. How did I miss Cherryh?

Theft of Swords is really only 21 votes, since 3 voters are disqualified.

You know, it looks like we're going to need to do a runoff poll and so I am going to close this one and set up a runoff poll with Eye of the World and Theft of Swords... We want to get the book chosen so that people have time to get the first one by January.
