message 1: by Louise (new)

Louise Wow, a decent amount of votes for hardcover. Color me surprised.

message 2: by Sandra (new)

Sandra I like Hardcovers but they just get too heavy. So its paperbacks all the way.

message 3: by Shayla (new)

Shayla PAPAER BACKS!

message 4: by Sridatta (new)

Sridatta paperbacks are best unless in few cases where i intend the buy a very good book which i have already read

message 5: by Sarah (last edited Jun 23, 2010 10:21PM) (new)

Sarah paperbacks are wrecked to easily so yay hardcovers.

message 6: by 'Aussie Rick' (new)

'Aussie Rick' I love hardbacks and will search the world to find a hard back edition to replace any paperbacks I may have in my library :)

message 7: by Paul (new)

Paul I like both so I don't care which one I get.

message 8: by Paul (new)

Paul But i voted paperback cause the book i'm reading now is paperback.

message 9: by Mike (new)

Mike Cota When I fall asleep on a Hardcover I have a huge square indention on my back for a week. Paperbacks for me.

message 10: by Kevis (new)

Kevis Hendrickson Personally, I prefer to read hardcover books. But paperback books are gentler on my budget and ultimately allow me to read more books!

Captain Sir Roddy, R.N. (Ret.) I love having my good books (i.e., those I love, and those that I will read again, and again) in hard-cover. Unfortunately, like many, my book-buying budget dictates buying soft-cover much of the time. I do, however, go out of my way to acquire hard-cover editions of my faves whenever possible.

message 12: by Jen (new)

Jen I could care less!

message 13: by Jason (new)

Jason Slovak Paperback for the win!

message 14: by Marissa (new)

Marissa Love hardcovers but paperbacks are so much cheaper, so they get my vote.

message 15: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Paperbacks are more "Green," ie environmentally sound.

message 16: by Michael (new)

Michael Economy Cheryl wrote: "Paperbacks are more "Green," ie environmentally sound."

I wonder, if you borrow from the library, a hard back probably has a longer shelf life.

If you're buying for personal use, definitely.

message 17: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline How about neither. I prefer E-books.

message 18: by Michael (new)

Michael Economy Imagine you're on a desert island, and you forgot your charger :)

message 19: by Anna (new)

Anna I prefer hardcover, because they last longer and while im reading a paperback, the cover gets bent and wont stay closed. but then again, paperbacks are cheeper, so I but paperbacks.

message 20: by Michael (new)

Michael Economy I wish they made more mini hardbacks. I like the size of paperback, but i also like the unbent spine aspect of a hardback.

message 21: by Aesha☆ (new)

Aesha☆ Paperback feels way more comfertable than hardcover.

message 22: by Jason (new)

Jason Slovak ☮♥☻Aesha☆I ♥ M&M's/cookie-dough luvr! wrote: "Paperback feels way more comfertable than hardcover."

Agreed! I love the feel of a paperback. That's 1 reason why I will probably never buy an e-reader.

message 23: by Rossy (new)

Rossy Christopher wrote: "I love having my good books (i.e., those I love, and those that I will read again, and again) in hard-cover. Unfortunately, like many, my book-buying budget dictates buying soft-cover much of the ..."

That is what i do. Also if it's an author i have never tried, many of my friends have to give a good recommendation for me to buy the hardback.

message 24: by Rossy (new)

Rossy Jackie wrote: "How about neither. I prefer E-books."

LOL! I have been buying only ebooks these days too. Unless the cover is beautiful, not available on ebook, or a especial i couldn't resist.

message 25: by Dori (last edited Jun 24, 2010 06:48PM) (new)

Dori I love hardcover books, but for me, audiobooks are almost always my preference.

Mike wrote: "When I fall asleep on a Hardcover I have a huge square indention on my back for a week. Paperbacks for me."
*snort*

message 26: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin Hardcover because they last so nice and long and always look new!

message 27: by Stefanie Sugia (new)

Stefanie Sugia i prefer paperback, because they're cheaper. :DD i only buy hardcovers for my favorite books.

message 28: by Natanya (new)

Natanya I voted for hardcover, but I'm a bit torn between the two. Paperbacks are more convenient for bringing places, but hardcovers are less wreckable and sometimes easier to read (paperbacks can be very small and thick...difficult to keep open). I borrow most of my books from the library, so they tend to be hardcover.

message 29: by Saray (new)

Saray i like hardcover books for the fact that it lasts longer
like my paperback books are torn a little from the
edges
and my hardcovers are perfect
but that's true that paperbacks are better in the way that they are cheaper

message 30: by Cornelia (new)

Cornelia That's a poll I can't vote in - for example there are books, which are published exclusively as paperbacks, and sometimes I simply need to have the hardcover for the so much higher price, because the paperback is published at least half a year later. So both definitely do have their advantages.

message 31: by Petra X (new)

Petra X Hardcover fiction because once the book had been republished in paperback the hardback is so much cheaper. Hardcovers look so nice but paperbacks (which form most of my library) curl up and go yellow.

message 32: by Samirah (new)

Samirah I love hard cover books... I think it stems back to my childhood, when hard cover books made me feel smart :) hahaha

message 33: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca I hate hardbacks. I love when you can see how much you've read the book so therefore I votes paperbacks. Nothing's as good as a worn book. ;-)

message 34: by Morgan (new)

Morgan F Even though I buy nearly only paperbacks, that's just a budget thing. If I could, I would buy every book in hardcover. I just like the way they feel. And paperbacks can be too easily damaged.

message 35: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Where's the option for trade paperback? Those are my favourite lately!

message 36: by Gabby (new)

Gabby leisure Rebecca wrote: "I hate hardbacks. I love when you can see how much you've read the book so therefore I votes paperbacks. Nothing's as good as a worn book. ;-)"

haha i couldnt agree more. plus it just makesme feel smart

message 37: by Story (new)

Story I like hardcovers, they are soo nice and smoth. And they are nice and have a less chance of getting runied if water was spilt on them

message 38: by Nikoline (new)

Nikoline All my english books are paperbacks and my danish books are hardcover.

message 39: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Gabby wrote: "haha i couldnt agree more. plus it just makesme feel smart"

Exactly! I love showing up in school (or just in public) with one of my really worn books... :D

Katherine Quarles Definately . . paperback!

message 41: by Julie (new)

Julie Smith Mike wrote: "When I fall asleep on a Hardcover I have a huge square indention on my back for a week. Paperbacks for me."

Too funny! I love hardcovers, though .. I have some that have been in my shelves for over 20 years and still look great.

message 42: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Renée Paperbacks bend and rip all too easily. So hardcover. BUT, if there was a paperback version of a book next to the hardcover version, I'd probably buy the paperback because they tend to be less money. I'm a cheapo. ^^

message 43: by RunningChicken (new)

RunningChicken Hard covers last if water drips on them. Paper backs are dead on their feet with water. Also, harbacks last longer and look much nicer.

message 44: by Saray (new)

Saray Story wrote: "I like hardcovers, they are soo nice and smoth. And they are nice and have a less chance of getting runied if water was spilt on them"

that is so true
once i was taking of my nail polish
with acetone and by accident i dropped it
and one of my hard covers was next to it and
it spilled on top of it my book is still good as new

message 45: by Donna (new)

Donna Whereas Hardcover look better on a shelf paperbacks are just easier to handle. BUT I prefer trade over mass market!

message 46: by Mandi (new)

Mandi Paperbacks are easier to read...but hardcovers look nicer on the bookshelf!

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

Hardcover is more fun to read!

message 48: by Veronica (new)

Veronica I really like paperbacks but if its a book I read a lot then I want a hardcover because paperbacks fall apart easier.

message 49: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan Ideally, a signed first edition hardcover, but since I either read in bed with the book on my chest or stomach or I read while on the go, paperbacks are more practical. I generally take whatever the library gives me.

message 50: by Thisisforkeeps (new)

Thisisforkeeps Paperbacks all the way :)
