paperbacks are best unless in few cases where i intend the buy a very good book which i have already read
I love hardbacks and will search the world to find a hard back edition to replace any paperbacks I may have in my library :)
When I fall asleep on a Hardcover I have a huge square indention on my back for a week. Paperbacks for me.
Personally, I prefer to read hardcover books. But paperback books are gentler on my budget and ultimately allow me to read more books!
I love having my good books (i.e., those I love, and those that I will read again, and again) in hard-cover. Unfortunately, like many, my book-buying budget dictates buying soft-cover much of the time. I do, however, go out of my way to acquire hard-cover editions of my faves whenever possible.

If you're buying for personal use, definitely.
I prefer hardcover, because they last longer and while im reading a paperback, the cover gets bent and wont stay closed. but then again, paperbacks are cheeper, so I but paperbacks.
I wish they made more mini hardbacks. I like the size of paperback, but i also like the unbent spine aspect of a hardback.

Also if it's an author i have never tried, many of my friends have to give a good recommendation for me to buy the hardback.

I love hardcover books, but for me, audiobooks are almost always my preference.Mike wrote: "When I fall asleep on a Hardcover I have a huge square indention on my back for a week. Paperbacks for me."
*snort*
I voted for hardcover, but I'm a bit torn between the two. Paperbacks are more convenient for bringing places, but hardcovers are less wreckable and sometimes easier to read (paperbacks can be very small and thick...difficult to keep open). I borrow most of my books from the library, so they tend to be hardcover.
i like hardcover books for the fact that it lasts longerlike my paperback books are torn a little from the
edges
and my hardcovers are perfect
but that's true that paperbacks are better in the way that they are cheaper
That's a poll I can't vote in - for example there are books, which are published exclusively as paperbacks, and sometimes I simply need to have the hardcover for the so much higher price, because the paperback is published at least half a year later. So both definitely do have their advantages.
Hardcover fiction because once the book had been republished in paperback the hardback is so much cheaper. Hardcovers look so nice but paperbacks (which form most of my library) curl up and go yellow.
I love hard cover books... I think it stems back to my childhood, when hard cover books made me feel smart :) hahaha
I hate hardbacks. I love when you can see how much you've read the book so therefore I votes paperbacks. Nothing's as good as a worn book. ;-)
Even though I buy nearly only paperbacks, that's just a budget thing. If I could, I would buy every book in hardcover. I just like the way they feel. And paperbacks can be too easily damaged.

I like hardcovers, they are soo nice and smoth. And they are nice and have a less chance of getting runied if water was spilt on them

Paperbacks bend and rip all too easily. So hardcover. BUT, if there was a paperback version of a book next to the hardcover version, I'd probably buy the paperback because they tend to be less money. I'm a cheapo. ^^
Hard covers last if water drips on them. Paper backs are dead on their feet with water. Also, harbacks last longer and look much nicer.

once i was taking of my nail polish
with acetone and by accident i dropped it
and one of my hard covers was next to it and
it spilled on top of it my book is still good as new
Whereas Hardcover look better on a shelf paperbacks are just easier to handle. BUT I prefer trade over mass market!
Hardcover is more fun to read!
I really like paperbacks but if its a book I read a lot then I want a hardcover because paperbacks fall apart easier.
