Those of you who have voted, thank you.

For those of you have not voted, please take a little time and look over the list; this is an opportunity to help weed out the list and place at the top of the list, those books which seem to have more interest.

If there are books that you are not seeing on the list, please send me those titles and authors, and I will add them immediately.

By voting you will have a better opportunity of seeing the group read books which you are interested in.

Thanks for all of your help,

Bentley

Lisa Cross Evening Bentley et alia,

My availability of books, through our public library, is rather limited. There are several titles which look intriguing, but having run a book group myself, I know how important it is that everyone have the same edition when translation is involved. Is there any way you could toss up a translator's name or ISBN if a translation is involved? That way I can see if I'm able to lay hands on a copy locally. Doesn't make much sense for me to vote for something I can't get. lol

Thanks!
Lisa

What I think you can do in most cases is to click on the cover at the bottom of the poll; and this should take you to the goodreads or any other related site which should give you the information you are looking for.

If I can find a selection free, I always post the url and the photo cover always shows the edition that I am contemplating. All of these books that are listed, however, are on the potential reading list because they were recommended by one group member.

Any group member can ask for a book to be placed on the list by sending me a note. There is a folder on Policies, etc which has a number of threads which should give some useful info (I hope) on this.

Normally, when we do a spotlighted book; the chapters are noted and the page numbers in the selected edition - but even if you have a different edition; the chapter titles and numbers should be a big help.

When you are voting, you are expressing your interest in one book over another so that we can prioritize the list; making sure that the books selected are appealing to more than one group member.

However, if that group member would still like to read and moderate any book by themselves, I am also happy to open up a thread for them to do just that. I try to give all members opportunites and choices; but this can be difficult since we are all unpaid volunteers who have nothing to do with goodreads aside from our love of whatever bookclub we have set up. If at any time you have any questions at all, just post me a note and I will help as best I can.

Sometimes libraries also have ways to download books on line and/or the audio; these options can work too.

For example if you click on the cover of let us say "The Metaphysical Club" you would find the following info right on goodreads as you would find similar information for any book noted:

The Metaphysical Club
by Louis Menand

book data 701 ratings, 4.10 average rating, 118 reviews (more data...) edit
published October 15th 2001 by Highbridge Audio
binding Audio CD, 7 pages
isbn 1565115422 (isbn13: 9781565115422)
description Hardly a club in the conventional sense, the organization referred to in the title of this superb literary hybrid—part history, part biography, part...more

Every book has the same info that you are seeking. Every book's ISBN can be found by simply clicking on the photo of the cover at the bottom of the poll; I hope this helps.

Net, net: It is always best to vote for the book or the kinds of books you are interested in. It helps shape the selections and identifies where interests lie.
So always vote, it helps everyone out.

Lisa Cross Thank you Bentley,

My first inclination was that clicking on the selections, in the above list, would take me to info about that title, but then it suddenly occurred to me that if it didn't link, I'd just VOTED! I didn't want to risk it.

Thanks so much for your patience!

It is OK; you have uncovered one of the added features of goodreads polls. However, as luck would have it (smile) at the bottom left of the poll itself - if that happens; you can always change your vote. Nothing is carved in stone.
