The Power and the Glory by Graham Greene
Far from the Madding Crowd. I re-read it as an adult and enjoyed it (after Hardy stopped going ON about sheep and started an actual plot about halfway through) but to make a 14-year-old read it is a special form of torture.
I suffered through both The Scarlet Letter and Beloved.
Once and Future King. Freshman year of high school. I thought I was going to die.
Yes. That and Gulliver's Travels. Yawn.
I managed to get through Great Expectations, Wuthering Heights and Alice in Wonderland. And surprisingly, of the three, I disliked Alice in Wonderland the most.
