M. Jane Colette’s left-brain persona spends a lot of time in board rooms, “war rooms” and court rooms parsing lies. Her right-brain persona longs to be an iconoclast and artist. When nobody’s looking, she writes poetry (badly) and throws paint at canvas (less badly). Tell Me is their first collaboration, and celebrates their joint love affair with Calgary, Montreal, texting and impractical shoes. ~ HarperCollins Publishers

What a great question…

…and how difficult to answer!

Honestly, the first thing that popped into my head: Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Because, talk about devotion and loyalty (from Watson to Sherlock, anyway). I really see Watson as an archetype not just of ‘The Friend’ but also of the kind of Wife-Spouse-Helpmeet we all (regardless of gender!) fantasize about, at least occasionally.

Favourite heterosexual couple tho… I might have to go back to Jane Austen. Persuasion. Anne Elliott and Captain Wentworth. Because a) second chance romance and b) this incredible combination of passion-that-lasted (eight years of estrangement) and rationality-restraint.

I like my fictional people to feel pretty real, and Anne and Wentworth feel like flesh and blood to me.(less)
