I love the covers of Penguin's books. They're always so nice.

I've added about 30 titles but it meant I had to delete my votes for some of the books already on the list :-(

So do I, especially some of the older ones I have, when they were called 'The Penguin English Library' e.g. Can You Forgive Her?, or Vanity Fair, or The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling.

#10, The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge, is showing the Norton edition rather than the Penguin. That's unfortunate! Do you now delete it?

#335, The Land of Little Rain is a Penguin Nature Classic, not a Penguin Classic. Does that matter?

Why is the title of The Brothers Karamazov given in Cyrillic? That is certainly not the way it appears on the Penguin Classics edition.

Ivanhoe appears twice, as #399 and #468 at this time, with 2 different covers.

I combined duplicates, which should have gotten it.

I went ahead and deleted it. It was driving me nuts.

But please add the correct edition, the PENGUIN edition, to the list. Use the correct cover or ISBN:

I've removed one of my votes (ran out) and added the Penguin edition of The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge, as I have a Dutch translation myself. I don't know how long this Penguin edition will remain on this list though, because as far as I know, at times GR still changes editions (to the most popular one?). It has happened to my own lists occasionally and it is very annoying, as I have lists with Dutch translations on it which are used for the challenges of our group.

By the way, there are other books on this list which are not Penguin editions:
The Life of Samuel Johnson (#456)
I quattro pilastri della saggezza (#279)
The Master and Margarita (#40)
Middlemarch (#68)
Братья Карамазовы (#77)
Inferno (#84)
Death of a Salesman (#98)
and two of those aren't even in English...

Sometimes the list WILL change an edition to the most popular, and there's nothing you can do about it unless you're willing to remove it entirely and have people re-vote for it.

Me too! I'm trying to collect them. Do you know how to find a lot of them for cheap? Amazon kills me on the shipping costs. Books are usually less than 1 dollar. Shipping is 4.

Has anyone considered reading these in original publication order? It would be nice if goodreads give us sort capabilities for lists.

Yes, exactly, like The Woodlanders, or many of Thomas Hardy's works. Like that of Wives and Daughters, or Silas Marner, or Lost Illusions.

What's H, P. Lovecraft doing on this list? Isn't it enough that he's listed several times on the Goodreads Modern Penguin Classic list?
