While virtually all horror involves some level of isolation, some stories take place in settings which are antithetical to human survival.
This list focuses on horror fiction in which the major threat to the character(s) is caused, directly or indirectly, by the physical conditions of their location. The intersection where "survival horror" meets "human vs nature."
These types of tales tend to be very concrete, but books with supernatural elements are welcome as well, as long as the environment remains the primary danger.
Examples of direct inhospitable conditions would be something like extreme cold, outer space, deep underwater or deep underground. Places that are naturally dangerous.
Examples of indirect inhospitable conditions include starvation or hallucinations which are caused by the natural environment.
