Plotlines where descendents and beneficiaries are sent on wild goose chases or treasure hunts, etc. Or when the will contains a riddle(s) or clues or similar. Or when what they inherit is completely unexpected. Or the terms are conditional and strange.

Also accepted are when characters are shocked to discover they've been disinherited and it turns out that the will was fradulent after finding the original will, etc.

Being an unexpected beneficiary of an unknown deceased relative usually fits better in one of these related lists:
