No it’s really not.

message 1003: by Ricky (new)

Ricky Foos I would never attack anyone for liking a book that I didn't like. After reading Twilight I concluded that it wasn't for me and that I would not be following up on the other books in the series. I think it is specifically aimed at a younger audience, and I might well have liked it when I was young.

Colin Baldwin This was fun, Autumn.
Got to listing 14 books then it kept dropping out when trying to vote for Jude the Obscure.
14 is good enough for now.
Cheers from CB

Jason So we can see only 10k out of the 30k books unless I'm missing something?

2024, and I just got one from a thrift store. It's still out there.

message 1015: by Dominic (new)

Dominic Morton I love that when this list was started, people were arguing about whether or not Twilight deserved to be on the list or not.

It does not.

My only evidence: it has been largely forgotten and is mostly ignored by the Gen Z book nerds, who despise it.

message 1016: by Space (new)

Space Time If there is one book you should read in this human existence to know what is life and what is beyond, here is the one to test and see for yourself:

Beyond the Edge of the Universe: A Steady Path of Mindfulness and Letting GoBeyond the Edge of the Universe: A Steady Path of Mindfulness and Letting Go

message 1017: by Charlie (new)

Charlie I think this list has gotten a bit out of hand since 2008, 30,000 books is wild

You can, a simple search on amazon or barnes and noble proves you wrong.

Johnny Holla Mary wrote: "Animal Farm and Atlas Shrugged are absolutely books you must read AT THIS TIME in the USA before it is too late to change our path"

*2025 Update* Add 1984 to the “Must read at this time in the USA” list.

Um. Yes you can, I have one. Try going to Barnes and Noble.

message 1021: by Zuzana (new)

Zuzana Hello, any librarians here?

Can you still kick out blatantly fraudulent entries from the lists? It used to work that way in the distant past.

Anyway, please look into these extremely suspicious entries:

A Story of Yesterday by Sergio Cobo - an unknown book with 17k rating (and those seem suspicious, too). Ha ha ha! Some authors are delulu. Just for comparison (4 editions only, 301 ratings on Amazon)

The Elephant Tree and The Zombie Room by R.D. Ronald.

There are more similar atrocities on this and other Best of lists. I usually don't mind, but if the narcisism of some individuals is so out of control that they prop their books into the first hundred best or most popular books ever written (by using sock puppets and/or AI), it's just way too much and there should be consequences.

message 1022: by Joe (new)

Joe Valencia So how am I supposed to read 31.2k books.
