Lisa Vegan Bettie, Whoops. I think I forgot to keep adding to 2018, and a long time ago.

I'll try to do this for 2019. I think it's that I'm so much older than 35 I'm not sure I'm a good fit for these lists.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads All over 35 welcome, I assure you!

message 6: by Saturday's (new)

Saturday's Child Thanks for this list Susanna, I look forward to adding my 2019 reads to it :)

Susanna, Great to know. I’d also love an over 60 or at least over 50 list. If I was more active here I might start one. As it is I’m grateful for this one.

An 'over 50' list would be nice 😉

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Well, I could start one, given the popular demand!

Thanks, Susanna!

Penny Thanks for the list Susanna! :D

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads No problem.

message 14: by Lisa (new)

Lisa What if you're 49... and approaching 50 quickly... could you vote on your list then? :)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Turning 50 this year, eh? LOL

message 16: by Penny (new)

Penny Hmmmm...just a quibble Susanna - if you're going to have an 'over 50' list, why not make this 'over 30' or '30-50'? I always thought '35' was an odd number to start with but I always thought 'everyone over the age of 35, ok, that means everyone over the age of 35'. Is this going to split the numbers or are those that are over 50 also going to add books to this over 35 list too?

message 17: by BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) (last edited Jan 05, 2019 10:33PM) (new)

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) I must say I quite like the 'over 35' list... (even thought there is now an 'over 50' list as well). As far as I'm concerned, there is no need to change the 'over 35' list, but that's just my personal opinion.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads I didn't start this list in the first place, Penny, so I don't know why 35 was chosen. (I think the original starter of this concept of list has left GR?)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads I put books on both, for what it's worth.

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) Susanna - Censored by GoodReads wrote: "I put books on both, for what it's worth."

So did I.

Penny Susanna - Censored by GoodReads wrote: "I didn't start this list in the first place, Penny, so I don't know why 35 was chosen. (I think the original starter of this concept of list has left GR?)"

Yes I think they have. I remember you re-starting this one for us a few years ago. I forget why their particular criteria was over 35...it will just be interesting to see if those over 50 favour one or the other. I'm over 35 but not yet there in the over 50 bracket, so no biggie for me. I'm just interested in stats hehe!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Just a short note for anyone new to the list - this list is for the books we've read this year, in 2019, not favorites from any year, like most lists.

message 23: by Pat (new)

Pat . . and the spammers are back. The #1 book is bogus.

message 25: by Lisa (new)

Lisa How can you tell it is spam? Just curious...

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads The only thing the voters had ever done in Listopia was vote this book, and this book only, on to many lists. A book with very few ratings.

message 27: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Ah, thanks! Do you watch each book that diligently or do you get some sort of notification?

message 28: by Pat (last edited Jan 16, 2019 07:35AM) (new)

Pat When the list is short like it is now, these sort of stand out. Its a red flag when the top book is some unknown title with very fewer readers.

message 29: by Pat (new)

Pat Susanna - Censored by GoodReads wrote: "Not anymore. Removed for being spam: Dear George, Dear Mary: A Novel of George Washington's First Love."

Thanks!

message 30: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Thanks for sating my curiosity :) Also thanks for taking care of this list! I love it!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Lisa wrote: "Ah, thanks! Do you watch each book that diligently or do you get some sort of notification?"

I don't get a notification (except from other voters who notice it, like Pat did), but it's more common than you might think on Listopias, and the signs just jump out at you at a certain point.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Removed, once again, for being spam: Dear George, Dear Mary: A Novel of George Washington's First Love.

Let me add that this is a terrific way to convince me to never read this book, and I read historical fiction. If I were the author, I'd try to discourage this spamming.

Agreed!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads It's on the 70s list again, btw. (400 and something?)

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) Susanna - Censored by GoodReads wrote: "It's on the 70s list again, btw. (400 and something?)"

They are nothing if not persistent...

message 37: by Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (last edited Jun 14, 2019 03:47PM) (new)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads 6,000 ratings is high for a spam book, but #1 is looking very suspicious. Just look at the voters: 13 "1 of 1" votes (this in June), and 1 actual regular voter on this list. (Not removing because of that one real vote.)

I hate fanboy spamming.

message 38: by BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) (last edited Jun 14, 2019 02:05PM) (new)

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) Hmmm. 1 of 1 sounds very suspicious to me too... Now, if it were January but it is June, for Pete' sake.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Yeah, 13 "1 of 1" votes, and 1 legitimate vote ("31 of 49" I think). Totally non-suspicious in June. Also most of the 13 voted this book, and only this book, onto a succession of lists. Totally kosher.

message 40: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart Blood River seems to have been spammed to the top of the list.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads I haven't removed it because it has 1 legitimate vote. To the 15 other fangirls: congrats, I'll never read this now.

message 42: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart For whatever reason, the author of Blood River seems to have a team of people spamming his books to the top of multiple lists. Sometimes relevant, sometimes not.

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) Susanna - Censored by GoodReads wrote: "Yeah, 13 "1 of 1" votes, and 1 legitimate vote ("31 of 49" I think). Totally non-suspicious in June. Also most of the 13 voted this book, and only this book, onto a succession of lists. Totally kosher..."

Maybe.....it's an idea for the creator of a list to remove the book and contact the legitimate voter(s) to let her/him know the book has been removed and why? Provided the creator is a librarian of course. Because there must be something we can do about spamming lists...

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads All I can say is that it's not going to be in my list of next year's 'last year's most top reads were...'

message 46: by Mitchell (new)

Mitchell Friedman I created a list to try to capture those books that are something not quite spam as https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/131399.Surprisingly_Popular_Listopia_Books

Note the Tim Butcher books at the top.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Not quite enough yet to put it on https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7... , but it's creeping up there.

message 48: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart Blood River has just been spammed to the number two position.

message 49: by Penny (new)

Penny Rainbowheart wrote: "For whatever reason, the author of Blood River seems to have a team of people spamming his books to the top of multiple lists. Sometimes relevant, sometimes not."

Have you contacted the author about it? I've done that before. They were horrified that people were doing it. Not always the case tho - some authors are just so shit obviously if they have to have spamming teams...

message 50: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart I assume the author is orchestrating it, but I haven't contacted him to find out. Blood River is now sitting in the number 1 position. Really ruins the integrity of the list.
