Jake Aurelian graduated from the University of Illinois in 2000 with a degree in Media Studies/Communication & Rhetoric. Aurelian has taught English and media at the college level, and to date, has authored eight books (fiction, non-fiction and children's) and over 500 pop culture articles.

On Halloween 2012, Jake Aurelian took an obscure character from his fiction books, an angry clown named Ripper, and turned the character into a stand-up comedy and online comedy video gimmick; billed as "an unpredictable cartoon character come to life," Ripper the Clown morphs truth, fiction, pop culture and social commentary into comedy chaos. As his clown alter-ego, Aurelian performs material from his books; no other author has done anything even remot

ROWDY RODDY PIPER: Tribute to my friend and inspiration

In September 2011, I heard that Roddy Piper was having emergency surgery on his neck; I sent him an e-mail with my love and prayers, and his reply was as follows: "Thanks Jake. I miss u. Maybe we could finally work together [I wanted to bring him to the area for a comedy show]. If I die u can have a fresh cadaver..love me." On Friday night, when I received the sad word from my buddy and long-time Read more of this blog post »

Jake Aurelian "In various circles, I'm known as the guy who has the best and/or worst of luck. Playfully, yet with a hint of seriousness, I've been called 'cursed.' Others call it a blessing. From running into a long, lost friend on the streets of a foreign metropolis
to having a notorious, internationally-wanted criminal sit next to me during a screening of Metropolis, my luck—my hapless adventures—have become the stuff of local legend. Or so I'm told." (page 2)

Jake Aurelian "As a result of this pathetic lack of bravery, in the scheme things, we could never be considered The A-Team or anything even close for that matter. We’d
probably be considered the L, M or possibly even N-Team but never the A. I guess life isn’t like the TV shows we grew up watching." (page 189)

Jake Aurelian New Amazon review: "I had intended to read this book a couple of stories at a time, but once I started I couldn't put it down. Each story was fun and delightfully weird, and I found myself laughing out loud more than once. From Juggalos to classic film stars to bad dates, Jake Aurelian tackles each subject with cleverness and good humor, making every single story funny and unique. I found this book beyond refreshing--while many anthologies are a mixed bag, Mr. Aurelian put so much care and effort into each of his stories that I enjoyed all of them. I highly recommend this book, and hope to read more from the author in the future."

Jake Aurelian Review: "Aurelian's writing never failed to make me smile. The crazy scenarios somehow parallel with events of my own life, and Aurelian's immaculate writing gave me pictures so clear that I could have sworn they were flashbacks to my own memory."

Jake Aurelian "I had an epiphany that many people should come with required reading, like college classes where you’re forced to purchase $300 worth of texts. And like academic courses, some required readings could seem pointless at the time but later, may become overwhelmingly relevant. In the case of many of the folks I’ve had the displeasure of encountering, their collective required reading should be Abnormal Psychology, 10th edition" (page 30)
