What Members Thought

This book is quite personal so I don't think it will be a 4-star for everyone. I just think that the story about Nero, St Peter and St Paul here is very inspiring and pretty much stick to the Bible. I like any historical fiction based on the Bible stories, but this one so far is the most accurate- even though it still has some drama and romance that are of course fictional, but I can tolerate them, mainly because I love the protagonists especially Petronius- the antihero, no nonsense Roman guy.

I was on a Roman history kick when I read this, having just watch the TV series "Rome" and read the novel "I, Claudius". This book has a lot more spiritual subject matter than previous Roman history books I've read, which is a nice change. Usually the authors just wave a hand and more or less say, "Oh yeah, and there's the Christians over there, we all know what they were up to". I'm glad someone took the trouble to write a novel on this subject.

Outstanding book. Don't let the title throw you; you don't need to know Latin to read this masterpiece. It is a faith builder.

Not sure how I'm going to get on with this, I love history and the Roman period is one of the more interesting periods. However I'm not religious and if anything I'm agnostic, people willing to die, or shut themselves up in a religious building just makes me scratch my head and ask why? 6% in and I have a feeling this is a slow starter for me.
Finished this epic tale of Romans and Christians, did enjoy it in the end, and loved the descriptions of the Romans. ...more

The mosy important character of second line of plot is Nero, a Roman emperor (54 - 68 AD). He persecutes Christins for their faith.

Gran novela histórica. Algunos de los que pretenden escribir este tipo de novelas deberían leerla para aprender. Derrocha oficio y es sólida.
