I wasn't a "dragon" type of reader until I read "The Pern" series by Anne Mccaffrey many moons ago. I'm always happy to find another "dragon" author to add to my list.

This is the tale of Raeve; she is flawed, but fierce and prickly. She has a thing for males who treat women badly. Kinda a female "Reacher", but with amazing skills.
