When the Moon Hatched (Moonfall, #1) by Sarah A. Parker

The Creators did not expect their beloved dragons to sail skyward upon their end. To curl into balls just beyond gravity’s grip, littering the sky with tombstones. With moons.

They certainly did not expect them to fall.

As a valued Elding Blade of the rebellion group Fíur du Ath, Raeve’s job is to kill. To complete orders and never get caught. When a renowned bounty hunter is employed by The Crown to capture a member of the Ath, Raeve’s world is turned upside down. Blood spills, hearts break, and Raeve finds herself at the mercy of the Guild of Nobles—a group of dual-beaded elementals who intend to turn her into a political statement. Only death will set her free.

Crushed beneath a mourning weight, Kaan Vaegor took the head of a king and donned his melted crown. Now on a tireless quest to assuage the never-ebbing ache in his chest, his hunt for a moonshard lures him into the belly of Gore’s notorious prison where he stumbles upon something that rips apart his perception of reality. A shackled miracle with eyes full of rage and blood on her hands.

The echo of the past sings louder than the Creators themselves, and even Raeve can’t ignore the truths blaring at her from a warmer, happier time.
However.
There’s more to this song than meets the eye, and some truths …
They’re too poisonous to swallow.

When the Moon Hatched is a fast-paced fantasy romance for fans of witty banter and strong, sassy protagonists. Beneath the cover is an immersive, vibrant world with mysterious creatures, a unique magic system, and a love that blazes through the ages.

Found the intro hard work. But I’m about 4 chapters in and settling in to the story now.

Think I’m going to enjoy it 🤞

Amy Lea | 1 comments The intro is hard work, the world building is intense and sometimes I think excessive. But this book rewards perseverance! So good, can’t wait for the second Moonfall book to be released in a year.

Any animal lovers out there particularly impacted by this one? Yikes my heart was aching for those poor moonplumes 🤍

Miranda Daugherty | 1 comments I started to read it but then all my Libby holds came in 😫 I’ve been trying to start this one for months!!

Jen | Loves winter, ski & snow (thatslaplagne) | 5 comments Totally agree. The prologue was intense.

I eventually enjoyed it and got into the story. And I kinda enjoyed that it just unapologetically dumps you into the world to figure it all out. No explanations.

But sometimes the detail is too much. Like overly describing the card games…? I found myself just skimming the paragraphs to get to the point.

I also was reading it on Kindle and had no idea there was a glossary until I finished it. That might have been useful to know sooner 😅

Jamie (little_birdie) | 44 comments I also agree there was a lot of explanation...I wish instead of describing card games, we could have gotten more about the dragons. My poor heart reading some of those scenes!

Lauren | 1 comments This read like a prequel...by the end of the book it felt like the story was finally getting started. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to read the sequel, but the story was very linear and I think about half of it could have been cut without losing any important context.
