This was so good, I loved absolutely every second of it! Set in the late 18th century and told from the perspective of a midwife, it's part mystery, part legal suspense, and a lot of discussion on how women were treated.

Mystery wrapped up in a historical fiction novel with Martha Ballard, a midwife in the late-1700s in Maine, at its center. Well-written and well-paced. An enjoyable listen.
OMG this was a great book! Martha Ballard's story -- as told by Ariel Lawhon is wonderful and powerful and compelling -- everyone should read it. I loved the fact that it takes place in colonial New England (since I live outside Boston) -- not long after the Declaration of Independence is signed. The way women were treated even then is abominable and this is demonstrated clearly in the story. Every woman should read it. I loved it!
