I loved this book. I would have rated it 4.5 if half stars were an option, but alas, goodreads is a whole number grading system.

It was slow at parts, but I loved it! The Beauty and the Beast likeness was reeeeaaaaaal and I was here for it. I already ordered the ready if the series (that’s out so far) and I can’t wait to pick up the second one.

I really had a lot of fun reading this! It read a bit like YA - I don’t remember if it was actually YA or not as I snagged it from the library - but it did seem to have a bit of YA fluff in the plot line. You know, young person angst, always fighting against being told not to do something, and the main character, Feyre, did make some annoying decisions that put her in unnecessary danger, after being warned against it. I am not sure that i have ever written a review on goodreads but i loved this book so much I felt I needed to write one. I admit that the cover is what initially caught my eye, the red background stood out on the shelf. After flipping the book over and reading the back i decide to add it to my cart.

When I first started to read it I was worried it would be some kind of Katniss/Tris meets Beauty and the Beast story but once I got into the book most of those thoughts disappeared. 4.5 Stars/5 Stars

When I first started to read it I was worried it would be some kind of Katniss/Tris meets Beauty and the Beast story but once I got into the book most of those thoughts disappeared. I will admit that a few times I did want to hum the "tale as old as time" song while reading, but that might just be me.

I really enjoyed the overall story and I loved Tamlin and Lucien a lot! I appreciated the give & take relationship that the author created between Feyre and Lucien as much as the relationship she created with Tamlin. Lucien is one of my favorite supporting characters in any book i have read which is hard to believe based off my initial reaction after he was introduced. I wanted to hate him right from the start based off the way he interacted with Feyre but slowly his humor and wit came through.

Tamlin was easier to like once he started to talk to Feyre but i kind of knew I would like his character once he offered to spare her life. It had that Beauty and the Beast feel to it, and I loved watching them turn to friends and beyond. Some of my favorite scenes were when she trapped him in a snare and in the hallway after the celebration she was not supposed to attend.

I really don't want to ruin the plot for anyone that might be reading so I will say I there were times i laughed so hard my little one asked me what I was laughing at and there were times my heart dropped out of my chest. I was truly able to get lost in the world Sarah created.

If I'm being honest I was annoyed with Feyre a lot, not nearly as much as other female characters (Bella), but I never got to the point i wanted to close the book and walk away. When i started the book Sunday morning I told my friend there was no way i would get through all 416 pages by the end of the week but when i was fighting sleep at 11pm that night i was at page 379. I ended up finishing the book before work the next day because I knew i would be distracted with how it was going to end.

I liked the idea of the curse and the idea of everyone having permanent masks on their faces, but i struggled with Rhys role near the end. I will say i did liked the last interaction he shared with Feyre and the way it set up the next book. Now that I am waiting to get my hands on the next book I am left wondering how her deal with Rhys and her actions to save Tamlin will effect her.

This is definitely a book I will recommend to friends and Sarah is an author I plan to read more from. ...more

More like a 3.5. I've only read Throne of Glass by this author so I'll be comparing them a bit. For the first 50% of ACOTAR I thought it wasn't as lively as Throne of Glass and I wondered if I wouldn't like it much. The Beauty And The Beast type scenario wasn't really my type, the world-building seemed lackluster and the world itself barren, and I was frustrated by Feyre's family and her devotion to them. I listened to this on audible, and I think it's important to note that I may not be an audible person in general. My track record with books on audible has not ever gone higher than 3/3.5 stars really. I'm wondering if it's the material or maybe just that I'm not that into audible. Or maybe it's the genre. I don't know yet.

Loved, loved, LOVED this series.

Read this book in a couple of days, couldn't wait to start Book Two, A Court of Mist and Fury.

Excellent Series.
