Words can not describe my love for this book. I have my French host family to thank for this amazing read as they gave it to me as a christmas present and I then preceded to devour it in first English, and then in French.

I really like Historical fiction, being a history buff. I particularly love World War II and therefore this book largely appealed to me. However I was put off by the letter/diary entry format as I have previously had bad experience with these kind of books. I confess I probably ...more

The story told in letters is particularly interesting in setting the tone of post WWII and the impact on a wonderful cross section of lives. The full cast audio narration is top rate and a most effective and poignant experience.
