I really loved this book, though sometimes I really wanted to slap Eliza upside the head - what was she thinking???
This book was an emotional rollercoaster that's for sure which pulled at the heart strings and had me in tears in parts.
Being a love of Indie music I just loved Paul and his staunch values and what music meant to him - to him it was all about the music and his love for Eliza - it really was beautiful.
The music references took me back - made me want to go and check out some Pink Floy ...more

I had very mixed feelings on How to Kill a Rock Star. There were parts I absolutely loved and parts that I almost couldn't continue because I hated the direction it was going so much.

Eliza is a music journalist. When she lands a great job at a music magazine she jumps at the opportunity to move to New York and be in the same city as her brother. Because Michael (Eliza's brother) and his wife's apartment is so small, Eliza moves in with Michael's best friend Paul, the talented singer in her brot I had very mixed feelings on How to Kill a Rock Star. There were parts I absolutely loved and parts that I almost couldn't continue because I hated the direction it was going so much.

Eliza is a music journalist. When she lands a great job at a music magazine she jumps at the opportunity to move to New York and be in the same city as her brother. Because Michael (Eliza's brother) and his wife's apartment is so small, Eliza moves in with Michael's best friend Paul, the talented singer in her brother's band. Eliza and Paul quickly fall head over heels for each other all the while pushing a deadline for Paul to get the band signed onto a contract before Michael has to quit and get a real job. Things turn sour for the couple when Paul finally gets the band noticed and they are set to go on tour. The tour will have to be traveled by airplane, a situation Eliza is deathly afraid of after both witnessing a plane hit one of the towers on 9/11 compounded with her parents dying in a plane crash when she was a teenager.

I absolutely loved the male characters. Paul, Michael(s) and most especially Loring. They all loved so deeply and were fleshed out so well that they kept me reading when I wanted to toss the book across the room. I could never quite understand what exactly Loring saw in Eliza but I guess that's the luck even a crappy heroine is blessed with.

Eliza was a dumb ass. I don't know what other way to put it. I tried very hard, because I do realize there are some people who have such debilitating fears that it can be not only ruinous to their happiness, but their very lives. So I tried to detach myself from reality and think what I would do if I had a fear as terrifying and irrational as hers. The first thing that popped in my head would be SEE A DOCTOR!!! Therapy, drugs, hell even a good drunken stupor would have been more logical than what she did. She immediately turned me off and I hated her from that point on. For months and months Eliza made herself and Paul miserable. And not ignoring the fact that she dragged Loring into it from the beginning and then later even when she hated herself for it, she continued to use him. She disgusted me. I hate heroines that are surrounded by great guys, shit on them, and then act dumb about it.

This was a strong character driven book and the characters were very well developed. All of them. Though I hated Eliza I thought the writing itself was really good and isn't creating some type of strong emotion what reading is all about? Even if it is strong loathing? ...more

I stayed up way too late to finish this bc it was so good. It was full of angst but the emotional ride was worth it!!!

Holy Cow!..this book was not anything i was expecting it to be..and it's also not anything i would have normally chosen to read...but i am SO glad i did (THANK YOU SHARON!!)...although i will admit, i wasn't thinking that at a certain part in the book! OMG!..Thank God it went ON..that's all i'm sayin'!

How To Kill a Rock Star was a really unique and interesting story...it was almost poetic in the way the meanings and feelings behind the music were described..something i didn't exp ...more

เนื้อเรื่องมันจะดำเนินไปตามการเจริญเติบโตของวงBananafishซึ่งเป็นวงของPaul อุปสรรคก็มีเข้ามาอยู่เรื่อยๆตั้งแต่การแต่งเพลง การdebutเพลงกับค่ายindieหรือค่ายดังดี ประเด็นเรื่องกลุ่มเป้าหมายของวง เรื่องเงินของนายทุน แม้จะมีปัญหาแต่ในระหว่างนี้ ElizaกับPaulก็ได้มีการหมั้นหมายกันแล้ว ช่วงนี้ต้องโปรโมตอัลบัม Paulมีเหตุที่ต้องทัวร์บ่อยๆซึ่งจำเป็นที่จะต้องนั่งเครื่องบิน Elizaกลัวการขึ้นเครื่องมาก จุดนี้เป็นจุดที่ทำให้ทั้งสองเริ่มห่างกัน ตัวละครสำคัญอีกคนคือ ลูกชายของศิลปินที่Elizaชอบมากซึ่งเป็นนักร้องเช่นกัน เริ่มเข้ามา..... (ส่วนตัว เราชอบตัวละครนี้มาก ชอบมากพอๆกับPaulเลย ถ้าอ่านตามเนื้อเรื่อง คนเขียนพยายามบอกด้วยว่าคู่นี้นะสมควรจะคู่กันมาตลอด ถ้าElizaได้เจอกับหนุ่มคนนี้ตั้งแต่แรก คงรักกันไปนานแล้ว)

ถึงแม้ว่าการเข้ามาของตัวละครนี้เป็นจุดนึงที่ทำให้คู่พระนางมีปัญหากัน จริงๆแล้วคู่นี้เริ่มมีปัญหากันมาสักพักแล้ว เนื่องจากคบกันมานาน เริ่มเห็นนิสัยที่ไม่ชอบใจของแต่ละฝ่าย นี่เป็นอีกจุดนึงที่เราชอบนิยายเรื่องนี้มาก เรารู้สึกว่ามันจริง ต่อให้รักกันมากแค่ไหน คนเรามันต้องมีความขัดแย้งกันบ้าง พอข้อเสียมันเริ่มเห็นชัด ความเคลือบแคลงใจมันก็จะเริ่มมา เราจะหยุดการเล่าแค่นี้ เพราะหลังจากนี้น้ำตาแตกอย่างเดียว ดราม่าแบบตกใจหลายรอบมาก แม้เราจะเดาเรื่องรวมๆได้เล็กน้อย แต่รายละเอียดที่ดราม่า เราเดาไม่ถูกเลย สนุกมาก อ่านแล้วช้ำใจอยู่ตลอด

ถ้าอยากอ่านให้สนุก เศร้าให้เต็มที่นะ อย่าเผลอไปอ่านตอนจบก่อนล่ะ :) ...more

Paul and Eliza are a pretty damaged pair. Somehow, they work and they only work together.

Paul Hudson, an amazing musician, was pushed into the popularity contest of corporate music labels.

This book had my emotions going all over the place. I was everywhere from laughing to sobbing.

I adored Tiffanie DeBartolo's writing style, ability to play with emotions and insight into the music world.
