Once in awhile you come across a book, that due to some circumstance speaks to you a little louder and clearer than the others. This for me was that book. A novel created from a series of interwoven stories (each chapter depicts another character in the narrative,) it all surrounds the actual tight rope walk between the two towers at the World Trade Center, while the building was being finished in the early 1970s.(One of the first acts of gorilla art in the US.) Generally I like National Book award winners, and this is no exception. Honest, unflinching and ending, despite the tone of most of the book, ending in hope. I wasn't really sure on this one, examining New York in the mid 70s isn't exactly up there on my list of topics to read about. I enjoyed it. Each chapter describes the experiences of different characters and they gradually intertwine, some first person, some third.

McCann's style can be a bit choppy and hard to follow, and maybe it's just m ...more
