Besides the fact that the subject matter in this book is intersting and pondorous, Atwoods unique story telling by free associate word poetical ramblings and symbolism in this dystopic world made this book both simply addicticting, there are various themes like sex vs intamacy, responsibility "for the greater good", power struggles between genders... ect. A great read for book groups.
Perhaps what I find equally distrubing about it is how similiar I found it to the culture I am currently living

Can’t tell you how glad I am to finish this book. It was so boring. The story was of a handmaid that lived with a Commander and his wife and various servant like people. This was during “Gilead” The US after a nuclear war where woman became 2nd class. The book was told in first person but that was confusing. The book would tell about something that happened and then she would say “It didn’t happen like that”. This is truly a very sad story. There is not one shimmer of positivity mentioned in thi ...more
