A fascinating little look into the British class system at the end of the 19th century (written in early 20th). I picked it up because the mantra that everyone takes from it--"only connect"--is hot in education theory right now. I wanted to see first-hand what everyone's quoting. This book is a fascinating portrayal of class division in Edwardian England. I found it completely absorbing. Forster knows how to make a simple conversation charged with meaning.

This was a really enjoyable book that really centers around the meaning of love and family. Howards End itself seems to always be in the background and yet the story comes full circle with the house as a representation of familial love.
