What Members Thought

As a response to Poe's The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, I have to imagine this is a good book. Certainly, Johnson is a clever and funny writer. His takes on race and race relations (particularly in present day America) is very insightful. I laughed out loud at multiple points in the novel. But as a standalone novel divorced from Poe's original novel, Pym doesn't work very well, too devoted to creating a mirror to the journey of the original Pym to create something new and satisfy
