I thoroughly enjoyed reading about court politics and machinations in 18th Century Stockholm. The historical setting is delightful, the story is fresh and unexpected, structured around a mystical card reading. I highly recommend this book.

I can see how the tarot cards, octavo, intrigue, and symbolism in this book appeals to readers. It didn't quite catch me as I had hoped it would. It took me more than half of the book to care about any of the characters, and then after a short while, the plot seemed too full of holes to further suspend my disbelief.
