Thomas Pynchon’s books have intimidated me for a long time now. The scary specter of allusions that would fly right over my head kept me away for a while, but I finally just picked up a book and started reading the damn thing. So now that I’ve bitten the bullet, how did it turn out? Not painful at all. It helped that I chose to start with this shorter novel.
