This is a rereading because I want to include this book for a challenge. The book is the second one in Hercule Poirot series, and as in the previous one (Mysterious Affairs at Styles), this story is not that engaging. Reread this for ReadChristie2022.

A nice little story in Poirot's earlier days with Hastings. This one is very Hastings centric, he even met his girl here lol It's funny but a bit too romance-focused for my taste, and the twist is ok but not too remarkable. I like the developing friendship of Poirot and Hastings, though, and this is a solid ground for their everlasting relationship.

Not Christie’s strongest book. It’s both predictable and convoluted. Hastings is such a dolt sometimes.

The personalities of the 2 leads were displayed on this one and I wouldn't mind having Papa Poirot help me too lol. Despite the strong and aggressive male characters, the women held their own. ...more
