L.M. Montgomery's books are comfort reads, but yet I must admit that I was a bit restless, can I say a little bored? I enjoyed the trilogy as a whole, but I felt that this last book was not really needed, in that it could have been told in two books.

The last book in the Emily trilogy is quite a bit darker than the first two books. It took a distinctly different path than I expected. It did have a few of the standard and very funny madcap scenes we can expect in Montgomery's work, but Emily's "quest" here is a fairly bleak one. She is hated for being an orphan, not allowed to bloom as a writer and woman in the ways she wishes (and here I think Montgomery was channeling the moment she was writing in very well--I suspect this bleakness is some
