This is my favorite of the Gawain translations. The afterword by Neil Isaacs describes the tone as "urbane and humane irony, not without gentle satire." (A reminder of how much those middle ages folks would have enjoyed their lit, just like us.) If you love Gawain, don't leave this one off your reading list.

Tough read, but a fascinating piece of Courtly Love literature, written in the late 14th century. As I said in my comment about Twain, this book reminded me a lot of baseball and more specifically the book The Natural. I recommend reading them in tandem. Baseball and Jousting have many similarities...

This book is a wonderful retelling of the Medieval story. The vivid illustrations and curious tale captured my children attention completely. My 4-year-old constantly looked at the pictures in the book even when we were done reading it.
As we got further in to the story, I became concerned about the temptations that Sir Gawain encountered. It sparked many discussions with my children on chastity and how to deal with temptations. We compared Sir Gawain with Joseph of Egypt.
