I had put off reading this one for a bit because I was worried that with Harry being dead/a ghost, I wouldn't get to see as much interaction between him and my favorite characters. This proved to be both true and false. We still get to see all of the characters we've grown to love (with the exception of Thomas, who only shows up in one brief scene). However, most of them can't see Harry so his interaction with them is fairly limited. I did often find myself missing that interaction.

Oh Jim Butcher, you simultaneously made me laugh, cry, and gasp in surprise.

Ghost Story is not what you would expect from a Dresden Files book. But don't let that fool you into thinking that if Harry isn't constantly blowing something up or trading quips with the villains every other page that the book is misplaced or not "good."

It is actually a very good book. I've always felt that the last several books have been building up towards something pretty darned big. If Changes was the last click Oh Jim Butcher, you simultaneously made me laugh, cry, and gasp in surprise.

Ghost Story is not what you would expect from a Dresden Files book. But don't let that fool you into thinking that if Harry isn't constantly blowing something up or trading quips with the villains every other page that the book is misplaced or not "good."

It is actually a very good book. I've always felt that the last several books have been building up towards something pretty darned big. If Changes was the last click you hear at the top of the lift hill, Ghost Story is that miniscule moment where you are perched at the top of the first drop and you can see the whole amusement park around you. I'm thinking that the upcoming Cold Days will be the fast, surprising, scary, but immensely fun plummet down that first hill. I think we're going to see some really amazing and new things coming up in Cold Days.

But this isn't theories about what is coming up, let me go back to Ghost Story. Butcher ends Changes with Harry being shot and tumbling back into the cold waters of Lake Michigan. And no matter what Butcher says at the beginning of Ghost Story, yes, Changes did leave us with a cliff hanger.

Ghost Story is Harry's journey to find out who killed him and save his friends from something horrible about to befall them. But it's not the usual Dresden story. Shade Harry is unable to do his usual magic in the usual way. So the time he used in previous books to destroy buildings and bad guys, Harry spends watching his friends fight the things he used to fight. And from the watching Harry is forced into a state of introspection and self-actualization.

I don't want to give a lot away even though I'm certain most Dresden fans have already read and finished Ghost Story (I'm late to the game). There is so much that happens and is realized in this book. It's a game changer. And I'm very excited to see how this plays out.

Our beloved hero is dead and he needs to figure out who his murderer is should be easy right. Nope it isn't because Harry has made many enemies in both the spirit and mortal worlds. Where do you begin to search for your own killer? Harry's first stop is to Mort Lindquist and see if he's willing to help Harry solve his murder but it turns out it's Mort that needs his help instead. When we last left the mighty wizard detective Harry Dresden, he wasn't doing well. In fact, he had been murdered by an unknown assassin.
But being dead doesn't stop him when his friends are in danger. Except now he has nobody, and no magic to help him. And there are also several dark spirits roaming the Chicago shadows who owe Harry some payback of their own.
