What Members Thought
Perhaps I've outgrown Murakami and/or perhaps this is just not a very good Murakami book.
I always think I'm going to get a fresh twist when I read the plot summary to one of his novels because he usually succeeds in developing an intricate and original overarching story, but like a Japanese Philip Roth, he keeps writing the same protagonist and incorporating and relying on the same narrative elements to tell these interesting stories. Haruki Murakami constantly manages to surprise even if it's just with the smallest coincidence. It slowly sucks you in and all of a sudden you are in Japan and there is no way to escape.

Ugh. Did not enjoy this at all. Perhaps my expectations were too high? Regardless, not at all thrilled. In fact, bored out of my mind. So glad that it's time to move on.
