The premise had potential, to wit, a human experiment in genetic engineering goes wrong, resulting in a race of intelligent spiders evolving on a terraformed planet. The spider stuff was interesting, but the human stuff was doing nothing for me whatsoever, partly because I found the main characters in that subplot to be annoying and partly because I found the situation they were in to be implausible.
