What Members Thought

I will start by saying I am not generally a fan of hard SF novels. I frequently find them to be too technical, too serious or lacking in human emotion. So despite having heard how very good this book was, I hesitated to read it. I was wrong and I shouldn’t have deprive myself of the pleasure of this book for as long as I did.

Pleasantly surprised by the level of technical detail Weir explored in the fields of engineering and chemistry. I enjoyed understanding the troubleshooting and Methods Mark Watney conjured up in his struggle for survival.
Downfall: The dialogue. Don't get me wrong I understand the necessity to ensure the reader was up to speed and understood some of the complex maneuvers which were carried out. However, at times I felt there was a 'data dump' of information for the readers benefit whi ...more
