I was originally in want of reading Sherlock, after first having read 'The lost World' by Arthur Conan Doyle -
Sherlock Holmes is certainly a peculiar fellow, and the more adventures I read, the more I can see the likeness to Professor Challenger which many had noted in their review of 'The lost World'. After years of avoiding Sherlock Holmes I finally bit the bullet and just plunged right in and boy am I glad that I did. Overall, I do not think of myself as being a fan of the "detective novel" but perhaps that is just my deep hatred of "noir" and "hard boiled" fiction.
I loved this. I found myself completely entertained throughout but some were more interesting and mysterious than others. Now I am looking forward to The Hound of the Baskervilles. ...more
