Recently I read a book by Rebecca West. The biography mentioned a long-lasting affair with H. G. Wells which produced a son. So I decided to read a book by H. G. Wells.

My edition of the book was published by Scholastic and indicated that it was written at a 5th grade level, for ages 9-13. This is quite amazing since there were words in the book I don't remember ever seeing in my decades of reading. It is hard to find a proper way to describe The Invisible Man. It is so much more than early science fiction it is a warning about the loss of humanity in a person.

Griffin became the invisible man by choice and quickly descended into madness. I think that he had to have been a least a bit mad before. I'm sure I read this during my school years as i rembered parts during reading.

I enjoyed it. However, the invisible man is a one-dimensional character-huge jerk.

This book is decades ahead of its time, great writing coupled with an engrossing story. Originally published in 1897, still enjoyable in 2019!
