I didn't actually finish it. Some good parts, I especially liked the beginning, but it took a lot of pages before the actual plot winds its way out. There are some creepy images, like the photographic countdown, and the suiciding scientists. A lot of time is taken up with a virtual game that is important to the plot but felt cold to me. Some of this may be due to the translated nature of the book, or current sf trends in China. I wouldn't be upset to see this win a Hugo award though. Book one of ...more
