Wow! Such an amazing read! A true classic in the Murder Mystery Genre. Agatha Christie loved this plot: 10 strangers on an island, lured by U. N. Owen (Unknown), are going to be killed for taking the life of another. Not only are they going to die, they are going to die exactly as the nursery rhyme:
Ten Little Soldiers
Ten Little Soldier Boys went out to dine, one choked his little self and then there were nine.
Nine Little Soldier Boys stayed up very late; One overslept himself and then there we ...more

I've read a small amount of Agatha Christie before and was mainly planning on working my way through the Miss Marple series. Then I discovered the reviews for this clever little standalone. 10 creepy murders on a deserted island, all set to a poem about 10 little indian boys. One of the guests on the island must be the murderer, but I was constantly changing my mind about who it was. Tightly plotted, exciting and intriguing, this mystery will keep you guessing while being short enough to read in

Wow! Now I know where all those movies and tv shows got their idea from. This was the movie Clue on steroids. I've never read an Agatha Christie novel before, and now that I have, I understand why she is such a well loved author. It was a true whodoneit. You could argue for any of them right up to the end. Great read.
Note: If you're a stickler for political correctness, don't read this. Take note of what the original title was and pass. ...more

4.5 stars.
This was a reread, but enough time had passed that I had forgotten the "whodunit". The reread was just as entertaining as the first go round. I was quickly caught up in the story and the masterful writing. I am always impressed at how Christie can keep the answer so well hidden. Misdirection is everywhere and everyone becomes a suspect. I (just like my first read) had no idea who was the culprit until Christie herself revealed it in the end. Fantastically constructed.

Fascinating, diabolical, clever, and very suspenseful mystery by Christie--one of her best. This is actually 10 murders, all creepily matched to the Ten Little Indians nursery rhyme and all taking place on an island in a storm in a very gothic fashion. It's the classic locked room mystery, but to the 10th degree! As each person is killed in a suspicious manner, then the suspense grows among the remaining people. Because each of them is guilty of his/her own wrongdoing, they are easily susceptibl

There's a reason that Agatha Christie is regarded as the Queen of Crime, and this is a prime example! The suspense starts at page one, and it never lets up. Throughout the novel, I found myself adjusting my theories and guesses of who the murderer was, and I wasn't even close to close!
I loved the integration of the poem into the murders, it was just enough to give a clue as to how the next murder would happen, but nothing more. The novel never gets predictable, it kept me on my toes all the way ...more

Not my usual genre but I thought I would give Agatha Christie a go for Goodreads Mystery Week.
I really enjoyed the 3 part drama of this novel shown on the BBC last year so wanted to read the book. Unfortunately this actually kind of spoiled it for me as there was no suspense or real mystery, having already seen the ending!

This was my first Agatha Christie novel, and it was a great experience. I am usually prejudiced against mystery/crime novels. This book is proof that each author is different, and you can't make assumptions based on genre before reading an author's work.
This is so skillfully crafted and creepy, like a serious version of the movie Clue on an island. It isn't out and out terrifying or gory or anything, but it definitely weirded me out enough that I was glad I read it in the afternoon with my husb ...more

This is classic Christie, but without either of her two famous protagonists. I must've read this before or seen a dramatized version, but it was so long ago that I remembered nothing. I had to read carefully to keep track of who each character was, and I was totally surprised at the ending. After all, it seemed impossible for all of these things to be happening in the situation Christie had set up. And even after the last section, I kept replaying past scenes in my head, to decide whether I thou
