What Members Thought
Don't think I can recommend this despite it's "classic" status. It's well written but so many of the characters are SO unlikeable/unsympathetic that I really didn't enjoy reading this. Heathcliff in particular was pure evil and I kept hoping he would get some kind of comeuppance in the end. If a book makes me root for someone to be killed I'm not sure that's a good thing. Also it moved really slow in parts with no obvious plot line to pull it along. I liked Jane Eyre a lot better.

Yes, a tale of revenge......
This is one weird story......I read somewhere that perhaps Heathcliff was black? Tis possible.
I still don't get where this is a "great" novel. I really don't.
It's a dark tale about twisted ppl living in isolation on the moors of England, one more nasty than the next. There is no compassion to be found. Just weirdness and meaness.
I suppose Heath digging up the dead Catherine and hugging her corpse is considered romantic? Yuck......
Heath is unkind, cruel and vengeful. N ...more
