What Members Thought
I can't believe I've never read this book!
I loved it! I saw the movie before reading the book, which was a mistake.
I loved the character of Arthur Dent and also LOVED Martin Freeman portraying him in the movie.
There were a lot of great lines in the book like the "national philosopher's strike," that made me laugh out loud. Since this is the first book in a series, nothing is wrapped up at the end of the book. I wasn't planning to read any of the others, but maybe I will now.

My survival guide to life.
I really enjoyed reading this. It wasn't as funny as I expected but it did have its moments. I loved the beginning with Ford and Arthur, they were my favorite characters. It dragged a little in the middle for me but then at the end picked back up. I look forward to reading the second book.

Let me start by saying that sci-fi is not one of my favorite genres, so even though I didn't care for it, this might be a fun read for someone who enjoys sci-fi.
That being said, I felt like the novel had so many made-up words and so little description that it was difficult to visualize what was happening. Also, the plotline seemed incredibly choppy with random things happening, mainly thanks to the Improbability Drive, which gave the story a silly feel. Now, I'm fairly certain that this is suppo ...more
