Honestly, I was a little bit disappointed my the book. I've been meaning to read it for a very long time and after checking out some reviews I only wanted to read it more because most people seemed really thrilled about it. And thus, I ended up reading it together with my friend Madeleine and I believe that the fact that we took our time to discuss every couple of pages made me even more critic regarding this book.

I liked Cinder and I liked Kai and I liked the cyborg aspects and the virus aspects. But the whole "an enemy race living on the moon" thing... too ridiculous. I didn't like the queen, I didn't like the race, and I didn't like the obvious link that Cinder played. It just wasn't executed particularly well. Something about it bugged me. ...more

I'm not sure 4 stars is my real rating. I think it's closer to 4.5...maybe. It may depend on which day you ask me. However, I liked it so much that as soon as I was done, I tossed the book onto my eldest daughter's bed and said "You need to read this." I wouldn't say it's my favourite book, but I'd absolutely read it again. In fact, most likely I will as soon as the sequel is released.

I definitely think it's one of the most original takes on the Cinderella tale that I've read in a very long time ...more
