I don’t like everything that I read by Neil Gaiman. But this book is one of my absolute favorites. Whether it was the callousness of the villains who’d harm a baby or the open-heartedness of the people whose hearts had stopped beating, I loved every bit. Weirdly, I found this book to be less dark than Coraline and that one was aimed at kids!

Wow.
Vastly different from his adult novels, which have left me fairly lukewarm as of late. This is a stunning coming-of-age novel with great illustrations and some really cool concepts (the Lady on the Grey may be one of my favorite depictions of Death). Nobody Owens is an active protagonist who impressed me, and I had no problem cheering him on.
I also liked the portrayal of the more "normal" characters. I suspect Scarlett's reaction to Nobody's powers and adventures might cause some to dislike ...more
