Shelves: adult, zz-2022, mystery, audiobook, award-winner, overrated, barely-finished

. Laura "Lo" Blacklock is a journalist who works for a travel magazine. She has an amazing assignment to review the experience of the inaugural cruise of a luxury cruise liner.

These type of psychological thrillers with an unreliable narrator are hit or miss with me. I disliked Gone Girl, The Breakdown and Honeymoon too. But I did like Behind Closed Doors, The Girl on the Train, Before I Go to Sleep and The Escape Room. I tend to listen to these since I'm not sure whether I will like it or not.

So many of my friends recommended this book to me that I was expecting something special. I think that the problem for me is that I don't enjoy the "damsel in distress" genre. But the fact that it was written in first person left me wondering how the final twists were going to work out and that kept me reading until the end, even when several times I thought to myself, "That's it, I'm going to put this down." Ultimately, the final twist made me glad that I kept going. ...more
