This is one of those books that is a slow burn. It's not fast paced. It's not going to keep you on your toes. And yet, it's so well done. And it does build steadily and suddenly it all catches up and you're overtaken with how wonderful it all is.

For me the saving grace to this book was the ending. I was horribly bored during most of the book. I contemplated not finishing it but I had to know how it ended with Anna.

Lib and a nun are sent to observe Anna around the clock to see if she really is not eating. The story starts off very slowly. Only about the last third of the book does much happen. I also disliked at least one facet of pretty much every character in the book except for the newspaperman. The story do

I thought this was a very intriguing book. Lib, a Nightingale nurse, is asked to come to Ireland to watch over a girl proclaimed to be a "wonder" because she has not eaten in four months. Is she a fraud or a miracle? Lib is charged with watching the girl day and night to find out. Heartbreaking and wonderful book with an elegant solution. ...more
