After reading this book I can see why John Green and his books are so popular, and he is the second most followed author here on Goodreads. At first I thought the book was about a kid going to a boarding school in the state of Alaska, discovering himself in the process, but I was only partly wrong. The main character does discover himself, but not in Alaska. I'm not going to lie, I didn't fall in love with this book. But it saved itself by the end.
What I did like: Chip, for the most part. His character stayed true throughout. The religion class, and the religion teacher. The ending, and the ending final paper. The character growth.
What I didn't like. Alaska. Trying too hard, she never rang true to me. I almost broke something with the ferocity of my eye-rolling. Miles at the beginning, although he grew on my by the end. The potential to really explo ...more

I dare say I liked this better than "The Fault in Our Stars". Up until the last 50-70 pages it seemed like filler, going nowhere. Then the climax (about page 130). I was baffled how the next nearly 100 pages could be filled but the last half was my favorite part. Many deep and thought provoking questions and a good and satisfying ending in my opinion.
