What Members Thought
I heard of this series thanks to the TV show, Midnight.
While it promises to have some ties to the Sookie Stackhouse series, this book is firmly rooted in a mostly-contemporary world in the middle of nowhere in Texas. The residents are somewhat different than your normal run-of-the-mill neighborhood.
Manfred moves into Midnight and begins to be pulled into the lives of its residents...AND their secrets. While a little secretive at first, he befriends his neighbor the witch, gives the reverend a w ...more

Below is my review from 2014. This is a re-read as a listen and it's even better to me. I can absolutely recommend this book, series and author.

I do admire Charlaine Harris. She writes distinctly different series, except when she doesn't. But this isn't in a bad way. She neatly ties in a couple of my favorite series into this story. I liked the woven bits. It's not necessary to have read the other books, but if the reader of this story has then it's pretty nifty and will likely b ...more

I love Charlaine Harris and was excited to see a new series from her. Although I was wary, I wasn't disappointed. Full of the quirky and odd characters you're used to, Midnight Crossing is much lighter-hearted than anything of hers I've read before. Fiji and her cat, Mr. Snuggly, are my favorite characters. Fiji is a self-proclaimed witch with a heart of gold. Mr. Snuggly, on the other had, is a cat. 'Nuff said. But he's got tons of attitude and personality. Really cannot wait to read the next i

I love mysteries and I really love this author so I was expecting a great read but it was totally boring. I was so disappointed.
The characters are interesting but it just drug on and on and then finally we get a dead body, it was Bobo's girlfriend who he thought had ran off. The police think he did it so those in Midnight have to try and solve the murder to help Bobo.

I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure how it will read to newcomers to Charlaine Harris -- it has characters from her Harper Connolly series, the Lily Bard series, and the Aurora Teagarden series, and I thought I caught some references to Sookie Stackhouse stuff. I was never sure how much I should rely on my knowledge of the characters or if I should treat them as new people with the same names. An interesting approach to world building.
