What Members Thought

Ije the Devourer of Books
This is a charming story and there were parts of it I really loved. I loved the quirkiness of the characters and the imaginative writing. Each character was just quite vivid and they came alive in my imagination.

I found the political aspects of the story to be really slow and boring and so on the whole it wasn't a great read for me. At 40% I was ready to give up and I was wondering about all the raving reviews and what people had seen that I hadn't. Then the pace of the story changed and at 60%

Although it did take me a chapter to get into it, once I was in, I was totally hooked, and couldn't put it down.

I loved the evolution of Alex and Henry's relationship, and the supporting cast were great.

I really enjoyed this book! I have to say that it has some of the longest chapters I’ve ever seen in a book. I must admit that I didn’t feel like the writing droned on and on, it’s just what it is.
The writing is crisp and thoughtful and very realistic. I’m going to throw out there that a sequel would be very, very welcome.
Very highly recommended. Happy reading!!!

I didn't realize this was New Adult.
I don’t like New Adult.
I did like this book, though.
I thought the writing was solid and the conflicts realistic.
I enjoyed the characters, although some of the secondary characters tended to blur together. I kept getting June and Nora confused.
The last third felt a little more like Young Adult to me.
I also thought the writing could have been tighter - especially the ending. It was longer than it needed to be.

Enjoyable but I don’t expect I will read more by the

After reading some reviews I wondered how the author was going to pull off a believable alternate universe. She did. I loved this book, I think it has a cathartic effect after the 2016 election, which is exactly what McQuiston wanted. I liked the fact that the sex scenes are not particularly graphic, I loved ''President Mom'', and obviously the two protagonists. On the negative side there is a bit too much of quite specific US politics for non US people; stereotyping of ''the British''/the Briti ...more

I loved this book. I read the last page and out-loud to no one said “that book was fabulous.” I want this book to be real. I want this parallel universe to exist and Alex and Henry, and yes even stuffy Phillip to be real. And I want to be there too. I think I needed this book. It’s fun, while still hitting on the reality of the world we live in currently in a way that makes me want to believe everything will be okay.

The storyline is fun and well, prior to 4 years ago, I would have thought a bit

So I have wanted to read/listen to this book for some time, but I didn't get it right away for some random reason. I do wish I had listened to it sooner, but on the other hand, it was such a great book that experiencing it for the first time at any time is the perfect time. There is some sexual content, but seeing as the characters are at the age they are leaving college, I think it's completely appropriate. It does not have as much content as your typical mm romance though. There are definitely ...more
