I really liked this book a lot. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot. I appreciated Rachel's character development. I was glad to see some major questions answered (Jenk's life span, Matalinda's illness, etc). I even enjoyed the return of Rachel's no good ex, Nick. I think the writing was crisper, smarter, and really awesome this go around. Kim seems to be only getting better as an author and I really enjoy her work.

I liked nearly everything about this book plotwise, except for Pierce.

So...I don't usually write reviews on here b/c it seems everyone has written anything I would want to say. But, after 8 books, I feel the need to express a few things.

First of all...Nick has got to go. This toolbag has appeared, disappeared, and reappeared one too many times for me. And, he called her a whore in this last one and she didn't even care! Rachel needs to get over the no killing, I'm a good witch BS and finally kill this fool.

Rachel's in a mess again. Accused of being a black witch, she's been shunned by the Coven. Now she's running and fighting for her life as they try to lobotomize her. I always enjoy reading about Rachel Morgan. Kim Harrison's writing is fast-paced, full of detail and leaves me breathless. I get completely sucked into her world, hating the moments I have to step away to do stuff like eat and sleep. This is one of my favourite series for any number of reasons. To be honest there were some plot points in Black Magic Sanction that I am not to sure about, particularly the sterilisation/lobotomy threat, however I was willing to swallow it while I was reading and there was so much going on as Rachel stumbled from one crisis to another.
Again for me the main appeal of this series are the characters and Harrisons ability to keep them interesting. I felt sad for Jenks, interested in Ivy's new relati ...more

Now this part of the series was so much better than the last book was.
There were some really sad moments in this installment that has me screaming NOOOOOO! Harrison must have some method to the madness. I just can't see what it is yet.
I really like Bis' character. You don't read anything about gargoyles very often, so it was a pleasure to get to know him a little bit more. ...more
