There are many things I loved about this book - the characters are detailed and complex, even the bad guys. Lily's Chinese-American background is fairly rare in American fiction, and her practical nature is appreciated by a kindred spirit reader. Rule Turner, the Lo Nuncio of his clan and reformed man-whore once he meets Lily, I believe, still has a lot of development to do. And I look forward to reading it.

A nice introduction to a new world, with interesting characters and a lot of promise.

Lily is a bit too stubborn and cautious, making things for her and Rule harder than they need to be, but it's understandable given her past and character.

I'm curious to see how things turn out for them after the events of this book and how they deal with the changes in their lives.
