This second book continues Alex adventures as he's set against powerful mages who threaten the people closest to him. Also, the relationship with Luna came to a head - I'm glad that the author acknowledged that he had been setting Luna for a possible relationship with Alex in book 1 and was able to gracefully turn that around by actually developing it into a plot point! I loved Alex's ruthlessness during the attack on Belthas' sanctum. He's such a pragmatic guy. I also loved that he didn't sugar coat his words to Luna. She almost got them all killed because she refused to listen to him and she needed to hear that so she could finally get her head straight. I'm still curious about Talisid. And now the shadow thing that follows Rachel. And Garrick, too.

Enjoyed this second in series and will continue to read third. The books are full of magic and mages but people still have the same relationship difficulties, special powers don't seem to help

The second book was slightly better than the first. Tighter writing or something. I can't really put my finger on it. Very solid series.
