What Members Thought

Firstly, I appreciate this type of anthology. Even though I'd read some of the stories before, it's nice having everything gathered in one volume. Secondly, Butcher is quite talented at the short-story format. He crafts believable, contained, complete plots that add much in the way of character development without becoming required reading. Granted, there are certain references within the novels that aren't clear without delving into the shorts, but they generally aren't vital enough to throw of

Restoration of Faith
This one has a Pre-Murphy setting. Although, Harry does meet her in the story but it’s for the first time. As a PI, he’s on a case of a kidnapped child. Of course, things always go wrong in Dresdenverse. The child’s parents who hired him to look for her end up claiming he was the kidnapper. There’s also a troll that needs outwitting. And a touching conversation between the kid and Harry. All, in all, a typical Harry jaunt.

I was so glad to find this. I love the series, but was always so disappointed to miss out on the short stories and novellas. Like in the short "It's my Birthday Too." I love the fact that you see more creature features in the shorts.
The very last story was a spoiler for me because I didn't know that I needed to read past the 11th book. So I'm automatically off to reading book 11.
But where in the Hell's Bells can I read about the Fungus demons?

I have read some of these short stories in other anthologies before, but having just started reading the actual Dresden Files novels this year, I think I had a better appreciation and understanding of them this time around. I had a lot of fun with this book. :)

I'm not big on anthologies but it was very nice to get a peak at what was going on between books.

I had read most of these before, but even so, it was nice to get to go through them all together. It was also nice to have a Dresden snack, while we wait for Ghost Story. And the new short, Aftermath, was fantastic. Even though Butcher was, I think, taunting us a little. He knows what we all want, both regarding Harry, and regarding Murphy, and he just waved it under our noses a little bit.
Ah well. Six months to fidget impatiently, waiting for Dresden #13.
