What Members Thought

I jinxed myself. I read the first 5 pages and thought I might actually like it after procrastinating over the decision of: to read, or not to read? I blame myself for settling on the former, as many have compared it to Jim Butcher's writing. Me and that dude do not get on. We are chalk and cheese.

The humour is unfunny; it's forced. The info-dump is off-putting; too much, too fast. Dialogue-overload. Not enough description.

Atticus claims to be 2,100 or just 21 to humans. He lies to everyone but

Funny! Oh my gods this is just so funny! I enjoy Hearne's story telling type of style. It's direct, descriptive, and overall fun.
I'll definitely be looking for the rest in the series now.

Pretty average. High point is that it is a male pov, and the story feels a lot like a dragon lance charicter, except uf.

Nice, good action pace, average plot...i will pick up the next in the series.

Closer to a rating of 3.5 but rounded up to 4 stars. Not bad at all. There were a few things that brought down the rating though. The villains were a bit lame in the sense that it was a bit too easy to destroy them so to speak. There were some cringe worthy worthy moments and as much as I love Oberon the wolfhound, some of his dialogues with Atticus didn't really work for me. I particularly loved the strong elements of Celtic Mythology in the book though which is always a good thing in my book. ...more

Full review later- It took me a while to get into this one. I ended up liking it enough to want to read book 2. I did find the dialogue oddly stilted, but the dog cracked me up.

I was thoroughly entertained with the adventures of Atticus and Oberon, and can't wait to start the next book in the series. Also, Luke Daniels performance was amazing! ...more
A book away from an episode of hoarders
I really enjoyed this book immensely. Atticus may be ancient but he's definitely not old. Him and Oberon were fun together and I loved being in this world, albeit too briefly. ...more

Wow, I had a really hard time getting into this book. I'm not sure if it was because the main character was male or because his only actual friend was his dog. I think I missed true conversation between the characters. Most of it was verbal sparring. I eventually did get into the story and the second half was much better than the first for me. I have started the second in the series. I will be back to add a better review when I have time. ...more

Loved the world and minor characters.

Hated the protagonist.

Despite its flaws (and many typos), it was fun. Icelandic werewolves, Polish covens, funny old Irish widows, and lots and lots of angry gods. Also, this has some of the best one-liners I've read anywhere. I really appreciated how modern this book was.

I'll probably pick up the next one in the series in the hopes that Atticus gets his ass kicked a bit more. :)
